Take an objective look at "China the best"
China has been appraised by the World Tourist Organization (WTO) as the globally best tourist destination in the year of 2004 according to the report. The data indicate, the previous 10 months saw China's total number of tourists for both inbound and outbound hit the world record. The annual inbound tourists are estimated to overtake 105 million in turnstile count with the foreign exchange income to exceed USD 225 million and this is beyond doubt a piece of news very heartening.
However, we have to take an objective and dialectic look at the fact in which China was being assessed as the best tourist destination in the world. The appraisal of a best tourist destination depends largely on the referential quota of a country (or a region), the numbers of arrivals that year, or in other words, why China has been awarded the title of the best tourist destination is because the year has witnessed the relatively great number of tourist arrivals in China and a fast speed in the increase. However, this does not mean the world best for the overall level of the tourism industry in China.
Why and how could China attract so many tourists to come and do the sightseeing here? The major reasons are the following three: China is a big country with abundant produces and features a long history of civilization. On the Chinese soil there are rich and varied cultural attractions and landscapes appealing to numerous tourists from the world. The second is that China as a country opened to the outside world though for a span of 25 years is still a place from being unacquainted to being known to more people of the world and a place in the process of changing from being biased to a gradual recognition in the eyes of many foreign tourists and so China enacts upon many foreign tourists a sense of mystery and a great charm to them. The third is that it has seen a wavering situation in the world in recent years with unsafe factors to appear in quite some countries and regions of the world while contrarily China sees a stabilized social order with a fine and secured environment for tours and so foreign tourists feel safe and guaranteed while making tours in China.
All those mentioned above are the favorable conditions for the development of tourism industry in China. However, in the meantime we should also come to know that China, as a big country for tourism and a newly booming one at that, still sees big gaps between itself and the tourism developed countries of the world in the fields of hardware facilities, service-quality for tourists and the development of travel products. When tourists come to China they will feel more often than not the inconvenience in traffic and it's not fast either, and the service standards in hotels are not up to the level as being measured on the star-scale. They will also come to feel that the service of the tour companies and guides falls short of the standard with no enough attention given to them and lastly they are unable to take back with them desirable souvenir and gifts for it's not an easy job to come for a tour in China.
All this has come to show that efforts are required to be made for enhancing the tourism service quality and for developing the market of tourism and for China to become a really best venue of tourism in the world there is still a long way to travel. We should take it as a good opportunity in which a great number of tourists swarmed to China for tours to dig deep into the tourism resources, raise ceaselessly the service standard in order to develop the tourism industry a pivotal one in the national economy, thereby making China a true-to-name the best tourist destination of the world. |
