On May 29, 2012, Chinese Consul General Xu Erwen met with Mayor Harvey Johnson of Jackson in the city hall during her visit to the State of Mississippi. Ms. Elizabeth Hamilton, Policy Coordinator in the Mayor’s Office, Consul Zhou Yujiang, Vice-Consul Peng Yunzhi and Vice-Consul Wang Rui from the Chinese Consulate were present.

Mayor Johnson welcomed Consul General Xu to the City of Jackson. He said that Jackson, the biggest city in Mississippi, is committed to providing preferential business environment for foreign investments, and has witnessed rapid growth in such areas as agricultural products processing, aviation and medical care in recent years. Mayor Johnson applauded China’s prosperous economy and said China is a huge market for the world. He also expressed the city’s willingness to establish sister-cityship with Chinese cities and welcome Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in Jackson.

Consul General Xu expressed appreciation to Mayor Johnson for his warm reception, and briefed him on the latest development of China-US relationship as well as the local exchanges. Consul General Xu pointed out that China-US relationship are enjoying healthy development, and the frequent sub-national exchanges between the two sides are leading to fruitful achievements. China and the city of Jackson face a great opportunity in enhancing exchanges and cooperation in all areas. Consul General Xu looked forward to make joint efforts with Mayor Johnson to further strengthen such exchange and cooperation.
