Consul General Xu Erwen Meets with Mayor of Montgomery

On March 29, 2012, Chinese Consul General Xu Erwen met with Mayor Todd Strange of Montgomery in the city hall during her visit to Alabama. Consul Cao Derong, Consul Zhou Yujiang, Li Zhuang and Peng Yunzhi were present.

Mayor Strange welcomed Consul General Xu to Montgomery City. He shared with her the success stories of Montgomery enterprises in China and informed her with the city’s development plan. According to his introduction, Montgomery takes the aviation, high-tech and automotive manufacturing as priority of development, in an effort to maintain a diversified economy. He stressed that the city opens its arms to foreign investors and supports cooperation between Montgomery and China. He also recalled his visits to China, saying that Montgomery always pays close attention to China’s economic development and values Chinese market.

Consul General Xu briefed Mayor Strange on the latest development of China-U.S. relationship as well as China’s cooperation with the Southern US states including Alabama. She pointed out that the two countries are facing unprecedented opportunities of cooperation. The Chinese Consulate General expects to join hands with the local governments including Montgomery city and the friends from all walks of life in expanding the win-win cooperation between China and US.

Montgomery City is the capital and second largest city of Alabama, the regional processing and distribution hub for agriculture products in the Dixie area as well. Montgomery has long had large metal fabrication, food processing, lumber production and automotive manufacturing sectors.
