On August 30, Consul General Gao Yanping met with President of Emory University James Wagner. Consul Wei Liqing and Wang Peijun of the Chinese Consulate General, Vice Provost for International Affairs Holli Semetko were present.

Consul General Gao stressed that the healthy and stable China-U.S. relations have provided good opportunities for the educational cooperation and exchanges between the two countries. The joint research and Ph.D programs between Emory University and Peking University, Nanjing University and Beijing Normal University, the Confucius Institute jointly established by Emory University, Atlanta Public System and Nanjing University in 2008, and the Chinese community of more than 700 Chinese students and scholars on Emory campus have contributed values to Emory’s cultural diversity and international reputation. She hopes Emory can cherish the good collaborative relations with the Chinese universities, properly handle the sensitive issues, and maintain popular will and social foundation of bilateral exchanges and cooperation.

President Wagner said that educational exchanges and cooperation between Emory and the Chinese universities have expanded year by year and yielded many fruits. The Chinese students and scholars at Emory University are talented, hard-working and diligent, leaving him profound memories. Emory University attaches great importance to its exchanges and collaborative relations with the Chinese universities. He wishes more and more Chinese universities can become its collaborative partners. He welcomes more and more Chinese students and scholars can study, teach and work on campus.

Consul General Gao and President Wagner also exchanged views on other issues of mutual concern.
