Consul General Gao Yanping Meets with the Mayor of Dallas

On January 14, 2010, Consul General Gao Yanping met with Tom Leppert, Mayor of the City of Dallas in the City Hall. Deputy Consul General Zhou Ding, Ron Natinsky, Chairman of the City Council's Economic Development and International Committee, Eugene Y Shen, Senior Coordinator of the Office of Economic Development International Business and Protocol Services, James N Falk, President and CEO of the World Affairs Council Dallas/Fort Worth, Beth Huddleston, Chief of Protocol of the City of Dallas were present.

Consul General Gao said, China has a closer bond with Dallas in recent years. The bilateral exchanges and cooperation have enjoyed smooth development under the establishment of friendship cities between the Chinese Cities of Dalian, Qingdao, Nanjing and Dallas. Mayor Leppert's 2 visits to China have further boosted exchanges and cooperation in the economic, trade, scientific and cultural fields between China and Dallas. Consul General Gao hoped China and Dallas continue expanding and deepening exchanges and cooperation in all fields aiming to bring more tangible benefits to the peoples of China and Dallas. She also extended her invitation to Mayor Leppert to lead a delegation from Dallas to join the 2010 Shanghai World Expo and take this opportunity to promote the City of Dallas to peoples from China and around the world.

Mayor Leppert said, as an important city in the southern region of the United States, Dallas has enjoyed great economic prospect and gained substantial benefits from the friendly relations between China and the United States. As the Mayor of Dallas, he attaches great importance to the cooperation with China in all fields. He agreed that 2010 Shanghai World Expo offers great opportunity for Dallas to expand its influences to the outside world and he was looking forward to Dallas' participation in this world renowned event. Mayor Leppert also expressed his hope for the start of direct flights between Dallas and major Chinese cities to facilitate the mutual exchanges and cooperation.
