On October 6, 2009, Chinese Consul General in Houston Gao Yanping met with Manny Diaz, Mayor of the city of Miami at the City Hall of Miami.
Mayor Diaz warmly welcomed Consul General Gao to assume her office as Chinese Consul General in Houston. Diaz congratulated the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and appraised the marvelous achievement the new China had made in the past 60 years. Diaz said the rapid development of China had brought great opportunities for the city of Miami. China had become the biggest trade partner of Miami Port. Miami and Qingdao had established the sister city relationship. The first Confucius Institute in south Florida had been set up in Miami Dade College. Diaz thanked Chinese Consulate General in Houston for the long time support to the relationship between Miami and China. He expressed that the city of Miami would like to work more closely with the Chinese Consulate General to further deepen the exchanges and cooperation between two sides in the future. Consul General Gao said she was very pleased to meet Mr. Mayor in the beautiful city of Miami. In recent years, successful and fruitful exchanges and cooperation had been carried out between China and the city of Miami in the fields of economy, education, culture, science and technology and etc, which made great contributions to the development of Sino-U.S. relations. Gao thanked Diaz for his care for the local overseas Chinese, and hoped he could continue to take good care of the local overseas Chinese. Gao expressed that Chinese Consulate General in Houston would like to join hands with the government of the city of Miami to achieve more for the two peoples. |
