On February 16, 2017, Deputy Consul General Zhao Yumin delivered a speech “the Belt and Road Initiative: Challenge or Opportunity” in Texas Southern University. He briefed the audience on the background of the Initiative, emphasizing that the Initiative is committed to extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. He introduced the preparation of the upcoming Belt and Road Initiative Beijing Forum in May, 2017，and pointed out while facing challenges, the Initiative would provide more opportunities not only for the partner countries, but also other countries including the U.S. He called for the local governments, enterprises, institutes and media in the Southern U.S. to embrace the Initiative in a inclusive manner, and work together with Chinese side to promote the bilateral cooperation to a new bright future.
DCG Zhao had discussion with the audience. Prof. Anthony Rodrigues, Public Affairs School of TSU moderate the event. About 100 professors, faculties, students, think-tanks and businessmen attended.
