Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jiang Yu's Remarks on the Agreement Signed in Zimbabwe to Constitute a Government of National Unity

Q: On September 15, negotiating parties in Zimbabwe have officially signed an agreement to constitute a government of national unity. Do you have any comment?

A: China has been closely following the situation in Zimbabwe. We are glad to see that after a few months of dialogue and negotiation, relevant parties in Zimbabwe officially signed an agreement on September 15 to constitute a government of national unity. China commands and congratulates relevant parties in Zimbabwe on their efforts to proceed from their national and people's interest, and success in solving their election disputes through political means. We hope Zimbabwe will realize and retain stability and development ever since.

China highly commends the dominant and constructive role of Africa, particularly the SADC and African Union with South African President Mbeki as the mediator in promoting a political solution of the Zimbabwe issue. China is ready to work with the international community, assist and support Zimbabwe to maintain its social stability and national unity and recover its economy.
