Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Qin Gang's Remarks on Russia's recognition of the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia

Q: On August 26, the Russian President signed the presidential decree, recognizing the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Georgia and other countries expressed their opposition. How does China respond to it?

A: China has expressed concern over the latest developments of the situation in South Ossetia and Abkhazia. We understand the complicated history and reality of the South Ossetia and Abkhazia issue. In the meantime, in light of our consistent principle and position on issues alike, we hope to see relevant parties resolve the issue properly through dialogue and consultation.
