On May 1, 2012, Chinese Consul General Xu Erwen met with US Senator Mary Landrieu during her visit in the state of Louisiana. Ms. Laverne Saulny, Regional Director of Senator Landrieu and Consul Cai Lian, Consul Zhou Yujiang etc. were present.

Senator Landrieu welcomed Consul General Xu to the State of Louisiana. She stressed that both federal and local governments of the US value their friendship and cooperative relations with China. The US is willing to strengthen its cultural and educational exchanges and expand the sub-national and business cooperation with China. As Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship and member of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, she has devoted herself to promote the export to China from the US medium and small businesses, and is willing to help expediting issuance of US visas to international business travelers including Chinese entrepreneurs.

Consul General Xu applauded Senator Landrieu for her longtime support of China–US relations. She briefed her on the latest development of the overall bilateral relations and the economic and trade cooperation, pointing out that the rapid growth of bilateral trade and investment has brought tangible benefits to the two peoples.

Consul General Xu said, there are great opportunities and huge potential of cooperation for the two countries in many areas, especially in energy, agriculture and tourism. China is willing to cooperate with the State of Louisiana in these areas, so as to increase mutual benefit and achieve common development. Consul General Xu also gave her credit on Louisiana's robust cultural economy and expects to augment cultural and educational exchanges with the state.
Consul General Xu also exchanged views with Senator Landrieu on other topics of their common interest.
