On April 4, Chinese Consul General Xu Erwen met with Texas Governor Rick Perry in Austin, Texas. Governor's Chief of Staff Mr. Jeffrey Boyd, Director of International Protocol of Secretary of State's Office Ms. Romina Black and Regional Director of Texas Economic Development & Tourism Department for Asia and Pacific Affairs Mr. James Chen and Consul Zhou Yujiang, Vice Consul Wang Rui of the Consulate were present.

Consul General Xu briefed Governor Perry with the latest development of China-US relations and discussed about the new opportunities for the two countries to foster better relations. They both spoke highly of the growing exchanges and cooperation between China and the state of Texas.

Consul General Xu said that Texas enjoys a good economic development momentum and an advantageous investment environment. China is the third largest export market and second largest import source for Texas. Growing Chinese investments created many jobs in Texas and helps boost the local economy. There is great potential and bright future for cooperation between China and Texas. She looked forward to Governor Perry's continued strong support to the China-US cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and mutual benefit, and to the strengthening of the sub-national exchanges. Consul General Xu welcomed Governor Perry to visit China again at his convenience.

Governor Perry commended China's healthy development. Recalling his 2010 China tour and Texas Week in Shanghai World EXPO, he said he was deeply impressed by China's rapid development. He is proud that Texas economy is among the most promising ones in the US, and said that Texas attaches great importance to its cooperation with China and expects more cooperation come from the areas of new energy, agriculture, health, education etc. Mr. Perry also welcomed Chinese investments in Texas, saying that the Texas Government is ready to join hands with Chinese Consulate General in Houston to promote the bilateral cooperation to a new level.
