Gao Yanping Met with University Presidents

Recently, Gao Yanping, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Houston, met with Dr. Mark Becker, President of Georgia State University, Vice President Gary Hauk and Vice Provost Holli Semetko of Emory University. Dr. Yan Guohua, Consul and Director for education and education consul Wei Liqing attended the meeting.

Consul General Gao recalled briefly about China's development in the past 60 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China and in the 30 years since China's reform and opening to the outside world as well as in the past 30 years of China-U.S. diplomatic relations. She emphasized that the friendly cooperation between China and United States tally with the benefits of two peoples, and supported universities in Atlanta to strengthen and expand educational exchanges and cooperation with Chinese universities.

The university leaders from both universities valued highly of the their cooperation with China. President Becker wished to establish the third Confucius Institute in Atlanta and to have the "Chinese Corner" on campus modeling the "English Corner" in Beijing. Vice President Hauk briefed Consul General Gao about Emory's programs with China and Confucius Institute on campus, and would establish a "Chinese Culture Corner" in the main library.
