The Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Houston Held Spring Concert

On January 26, 2018, Ambassador Li Qiangmin hosted the “Greetings of Spring” Concert to entertain local leaders and representatives from all walks of life in Houston. U.S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Office of Foreign Missions Houston Regional Director Robin Blunt, OFM Houston Deputy Director Bob Hopkins, State Representative Gene Wu, Deputy Mayor of Houston Jerry Davis, Mayor of Pearland Tom Reid, Former U.S. Ambassador to Qatar Chase Untemeyer, CEO of George H. W. Bush Library Foundation David B. Jones, Chairman of WorldFest Houston International Film Festival Hunter Todd and Consul Generals from multiple countries in Houston, and 150 local representatives from thinktank, healthcare, business, and education sectors attended the event. Deputy Consul General Wang Yu,Deputy Consul General Liu Hongmei were also present.

In his speech, Consul General Li extended his new year greetings to friends of the Chinese Consulate, and appreciated all parties’ effortsto promoteChina-U.S. cooperation in different sectors and contributions to the steady development of the China-U.S. relationship. In the new year, the Chinese Consulate would work with enterprises from the Southern U.S. to make greater efforts to enhance mutual trust and understanding, to advance pragmatic cooperation in various fields, and to inject more impetus into the China-U.S. relation.

U.S. congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee delivered her remarks and congratulatory award to the concert. She expressed her appreciation of the efforts to enhance the U.S.-China relations made by the Consulate-General of China in Houston. U.S.-China. relations is of great importance, and both parties shall continuously enhance the exchanges and cooperation so as to benefit the Chinese and American people, Lee said.

During the concert, artists from local Chinese communities performed Chinese folk music, including The Butterfly Lovers, The Fishing Boat Man Singing at Dusk, and Country Lyric. The concert was well-received and highly-praised by the guests.
